If you’re a fan of TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress, then you’ll have to check out Say Yes to the Prom which will air later this year. They toured 4 cities giving 40 girls in each stop their dream prom including a dress of their choice, accessories, hair, makeup, and styling from the one and only Monte Durham form SYTTD Atlanta. I was chosen to be a part of their styling team who provided makeup and hair for the girls. It was a huge production hosted at The Cable Center in Denver where the girls spent all day finding a dress, choosing jewelry (from JC Penny that they got to keep), and then were treated to a yummy lunch before having their dresses altered to fit perfectly, then settle into hair and makeup before a huge runway show in the auditorium filled with people. Pretty amazing right? Here I am with some of the other makeup and hair stylists at the event.
It was such a fun day full of excitement and the sweetest, most grateful girls from Lincoln High School who were chosen because they’re at the top of their class academically. Monte Durham was the highlight of the day, making sure to carefully spend time with each girl making sure she was wearing exactly what she wanted. Even when the cameras weren’t rolling, he was floating around making sure the girls felt special and were happy. We all did that I actually because the positivity and happiness of the girls filled us all making it a truly joyous event that we were so lucky to be a part of. Seeing that he had some downtime, I asked Monte for a pic. Quick as anything he said ‘of course,’ grabbed my phone, turned us to find better lighting, and from above quickly snapped a series of 5 photos spanning from our left to our right. It was the most epic selfie I’d ever been a part of. Know your lighting and know your angles!
Here’s a shot of my fave girl I worked with that day (who was also highlighted on the news later that night!) She was incredibly gracious, knew exactly what she wanted, said thank you a million times, then asked for my card! She was also supermodel gorgeous as you can see. I can’t wait to watch for her when it airs! Check out Say Yes to the Prom later this summer to meet these deserving girls and see more from behind the scenes on their dream day.
