As a Makeup Artist for weddings, I (probably mistakingly) feel that at the end of the day I’m best friends with everyone there. So much so that when they start getting in their dresses to leave for the wedding I feel a little left out like ‘hey where’s everyone going?’ That was especially the case with Amy because I did her makeup when she was a bridesmaid for a mutual friend’s wedding years ago, so I was thrilled to see them all again at her own wedding a few months back.
She’s a girl who likes makeup and understands what looks great on her, so we chose a bright look emphasizing lashes and lips- nothing smoky, nothing dark. After filling in her brows and getting her skin even, I used a pinkish taupe in her crease, defined using a deep matte grey, then a black liner on the top and bottom. I used a white liner in her lower waterline to add brightness instead of black, then she provided a lip color she (and I) loved.
I was so happy to work with someone who (finally) didn’t want a nude lip. Using a berry like this is so fresh and timeless, it’s actually a better long term look (as far as photos are concerned) than a nude which is more of a trend and not as classic. 30 years from now, this will still look great. It’s one of those things that takes some getting used to if you aren’t a lipstick person so it often helps to see photos of yourself wearing it to get a different perspective of how great it looks. A berry lipstick should be a staple for when you want to change it up with a little pop of color. It’s pretty amazing how much a little color on your lips can brighten up your whole face.
