Dull skin? Don’t worry, I have the answer. You can turn around dull, dry, lifeless skin pretty easily by using the right things. To get your skin looking healthier, you need ingredients that are proven to make changes. Antioxidants, retinol, and clays exfoliate, brighten, and protect skin making it look better often within just a few days. I’ve chosen 3 superstars from my arsenal that feature natural and organic ingredients free of synthetics, parabens, and other nasties leaving only ultra pure formulations that are beyond effective.
An Antioxidant in the Morning
the buzz behind Maya Chia’s line of natural and extremely effective serums, oils, and balms that feature chia oil known to be rich in Omega 6 to nourish and moisturize. The Super Couple has Chia and also Astaxanthin, one of the most powerful antioxidants in the world with 65x more free radical fighting power than Vitamin C. I love how light it feels, absorbing right away and giving my skin a visible glow. I often use it post-makeup on my cheek bones for a shimmer-free highlighter that mimics healthy skin. It’s one of my fave ways to give my skin its am dose of vitamins.
Retinol at Night
Retinol is known (as in, studied extensively) to make skin better. It isn’t a guess or a hope, it’s an ingredient proven to exfoliate skin- sloughing off the dull ones and bringing the new cells to the surface which are brighter and more radiant. This process is literally what makes the magic of retinol so amazing. I have a prescription retinol from my derm that I use about once a week, but it’s so harsh and drying that it tears up my skin and leaves it dry and flakey for days after. Retinol Restorative Overnight Balm from 100% Pure is such a gentle version retinol, by still giving the exfoliation and brightening effects but in a base of a dreamy balm that melts into thirsty skin. Made using a base of organic Avocado, Sunflower, Olive, Beeswax, and Shea butters, the retinol is derived from carrots making this a cleaner and gentler way to get that vitamin a. I scrape away a little of the balm and warm it between my fingers before pressing it into my skin. I could see a difference in the texture, tone, and brightness of my skin after just a few weeks. It’s actually what allowed me to cut down my retinol use from my derm, but still keep breakouts away. A good retinol is hard to find but an organic one is even harder, I hope they never get rid of this one.
A Heavy-Duty Mask
I own probably 15 masks, but May Lindstrom’s The Problem Solver is perhaps the most decadent (and effective) I’ve tried. It’s a powder that transforms into a rich mousse when you add water to it. This dark, earthy powder is enriched with Fuller’s Earth and Rhassoul Clays as well as Raw Cacao, Vitamin C, and Charcoal Powder, just to name a few. Its scent is warm and rich like a big mug of chai because they also use Cinnamon, Clove, Nutmeg, and Cayenne to heat and invigorate the skin. I mix it up using just a small amount of water as well as drops of different serums depending on what my skin needs. It foams up into a bubbling mousse with a unique texture that spreads easily. I leave it on for 30-45 mins, as long as I can knowing that the longer I leave it on, the better my skin will look. It’s so invigorating and detoxifying, it brightens softens, tones, and shrinks any sign of breakout. It’s a miracle treatment for sure and one that you’ll use for a long time. Yes, the price tag for this one is more than some, but since it’s a powder it has a long shelf life that you can use sparingly without fear that it will go bad before you can get to it.
